The 24-karat American Buffalo Gold Bullion Coin was authorized by Congress in 2005 and first minted in June 2006. Made of pure 0.9999 fine gold, the American Buffalo is among the world’s purest gold coins. By law, the gold used to create the coin must originate from newly mined sources in the United States. The coin itself is minted at the United States Mint at West Point, New York and does not have a mint mark.
